Bandt moves to ban live animal exports

31 May 2011 | Agriculture

Greens MP Adam Bandt has today given notice in the House of Representatives of a Bill to immediately ban live animal exports from Australia.‪‪

The bill is based on Senator Rachel Siewert's bill which she has put before the Senate.‪

"Live animal exports are shiploads of misery," Mr Bandt said.‪

"We must act swiftly to immediately end this appalling treatment of animals that we saw so graphically on last night Four Corners program.

"Banning all live animal exports is the only ethical response to this problem and makes economic sense for Australia."‪

The bill will be considered in the next sitting week of the House of Representatives.‪
