Mining Tax

The mining boom won't last forever. The Greens think about the kind of country we want to leave for our kids.  Instead of wasting the proceeds of the boom, we could be investing in projects and services that will set us up for the future.

Like High Speed Rail connecting 18 million Australians between Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane, or making dental care part of Medicare, investing in large-scale solar power or putting the proceeds of the boom into a sovereign wealth fund - a kind of savings account for the country - so that there's something in the bank when the resources run out.

That's why the Greens supported the original mining tax and why we'll keep fighting to strengthen the government's mining tax.
