Energy deceit Turnbull’s ‘children overboard' moment: Bandt

Greens Climate Change & Energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today said Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s blaming last year’s South Australian energy blackout on renewables was his ‘children overboard’ moment, where he knew the facts but chose to deceive.

“This is Malcom Turnbull’s ‘children overboard’ moment. Malcolm Turnbull knew the truth, but decided to lie to the Australian public,” Mr Bandt said.

Energy Ministers must reject Turnbull renewables war

Greens climate and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP called on the Energy Ministers to reject Malcolm Turnbull’s war on renewables and put in place a plan for a new energy system that can support a shift to clean energy.

Mr Bandt also said the government’s scare campaign on renewables investment ignored the reality that billions of dollars of  new investment will be necessary to replace aging energy generation and infrastructure in the coming years regardless of what type of generation replaces it.

Omnicuts short change ARENA and Australia’s most vulnerable

Business backing and ARENA grants increase pressure on Bill Shorten

Greens Energy & Climate spokesperson Adam Bandt today said the Australian Renewable Energy Agency's awarding of federal grants to 12 large-scale solar projects across the country will give this clean energy technology a massive boost and put pressure on Bill Shorten and Labor not to support $1 billion in cuts to the agency.

Many of Australia's energy companies today have also called on the government and Labor to retain ARENA funding.

"Bill Shorten, don't kill renewable energy innovation. Don't kill ARENA," Mr Bandt said.

Turnbull must listen to Climate Change Authority whistleblowers

Greens climate and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt says the board members who have blown the whistle on the Climate Change Authority’s unwillingness to provide frank and fearless advice were putting the national interest before politics.

Two Climate Change Authority board members, eminent scientist David Karoly and climate policy academic Clive Hamilton, have today released a minority report criticising the Authority’s climate policy and targets review, suggesting the Authority was soft-pedalling on policy and targets to match the current government line.

Government stacked climate authority calls for coal phase out but fails to set out post-Paris pathway

Greens climate and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt, said the government must listen to its own Climate Change Authority’s call to phase out coal-fired power, while expressing concern that the government has compromised the Authority’s ability to provide frank and fearless advice.

Tony Abbott tried to abolish the Climate Change Authority and then stacked its board with Coalition appointments, Mr Bandt said, but despite these restraints the Authority is calling on the government to do much more on climate change and energy policy.

The Australian Greens have criticised Malcolm Turnbull's new Clean Energy Innovation Fund for trying to make a cut in clean energy funding look like an investment.

"This is a clean energy con job dressed up as innovation " said Greens Leader Richard Di Natale.

"Tony Abbott is not the benchmark of good climate policy and in a climate emergency, this should not be the best Malcolm Turnbull can do to transform our economy.

Gutting CSIRO climate science is the enemy of innovation

News that the Turnbull Liberal Government is sacking more CSIRO scientists, gutting climate science in Australia, shows what a climate-denialist government this is.  

Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, Senator Larissa Waters said: "Turnbull's mass sacking of climate scientists is the enemy of innovation."

"The Prime Minister's speech in Paris about tackling global warming with innovation was all empty rhetoric - he is keeping Abbott's climate policies and letting the Coalition climate dinosaurs rule."

PM Turnbull must ditch attacks on ARENA & CEFC, double their budgets instead: Greens

Responding to news that the Turnbull government has committed to double research & development investment on clean energy over the next five years, the Australian Greens today called on Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to ditch his government’s plans to abolish ARENA and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), and instead double their budgets.

“How can you, on one hand, say you support innovation and science, and on the other hand want to abolish ARENA and the CEFC? It doesn’t make sense,” Greens Leader Senator Richard Di Natale said.

Greens announce RenewAustralia – a plan to power the new economy

On the eve of global climate negotiations kicking off in Paris, the Australian Greens have today released their detailed plan ensure that by 2030 Australia's energy generation is at least 90% renewable and twice as efficient. A new government authority called RenewAustralia would deliver a 15 year pipeline of clean energy projects through a combination of reverse auctions and direct investment.

"Today the Greens unveil RenewAustralia - our plan to power the new economy and create thousands of jobs ," said Australian Greens Leader, Dr Richard Di Natale.
