McCormack's climate wrecking threatens Australia's children and agriculture

Responding to the Deputy Prime Minister’s statement about the climate crisis that "We are not worried, or I’m certainly not worried, about what might happen in 30 years’ time”, Leader of the Australian Greens Adam Bandt MP said today that the Deputy Prime Minister’s recklessness is a threat to the lives of Australia’s children. Mr Bandt also warned that his attempts to roadblock action to reduce emissions would also hurt regional Australia.

“Michael McCormack is putting coal corporations ahead of farmers and threatening the lives of Australia’s children,” Mr Bandt said.

Murray-Darling report gives Morrison ultimatum: crops or coal?

Greens Leader, Adam Bandt, says a new report on the impact of global warming on the Murray-Darling makes the fork in the road crystal clear.

“If Scott Morrison doesn’t accept we’re in a climate emergency and start phasing out coal and gas, nothing will save the Murray-Darling,” Bandt said.

“The Prime Minister must choose between crops or coal, because we can’t have both.

Morrison must apologise to wine growers for diplomatic errors

The Greens have today called on Scott Morrison to apologise to Australia’s wine growers and other producers, saying Morrison’s mistaken decision to align himself so closely with Donald Trump has contributed to rising tensions with the Chinese government.

With the Prime Minister now on the defensive, it appears that Morrison is starting to acknowledge his approach has failed.

Greens climate and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP, has said the latest IPCC climate report released today is a giant SOS for our forests and land, particularly in Australia.
The IPCC’s Climate Change and Land: an IPCC special report on climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security, and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems report released in Geneva says that reforestation, protection of forests and a shift away from unsustainable intensive farming systems is critical to solving the climate crisis.

Greens introduce country of origin labelling bill

Australian Greens leader Christine Milne and Deputy Leader Adam Bandt today are introducing new food labelling laws into the House of Representatives and the Senate to help Australians support Australian farmers and be confident about buying food produced in Australia.

The Competition and Consumer Amendment (Australian Food Labelling) Bill 2012 will put in place new countries of origin rules for food labelling based on where food is grown or produced, rather than where it is packaged or processed.

Bandt moves animal export bill


Greens MP Adam Bandt has introduced a bill for an immediate ban on live cattle exports into the House of Representatives.


"As we have seen again today, this time in Kuwait, Indonesia is not the only country where animals exported from Australia are subject to incredible cruelty," Mr Bandt told the House.


"It is disappointing that the Labor caucus has been willing to go along with the Minister's plan to reinstate live animal exports to Indonesia with only weak guidelines."

Complete live export ban needed: Bandt

Greens MP Adam Bandt will push ahead with a bill to ban all live animal exports following an announcement by the government to suspend export to Indonesia.

Joining the RSPCA and Animals Australia in Canberra today, Mr Bandt said half measures were not enough and any delay would cause more suffering.

Senator Rachel Siewert will also move for debate on the bill in the Senate.

"I will push ahead with my bill to put in place a complete ban on live animal exports," Mr Bandt said today.

Bandt moves to ban live animal exports

Greens MP Adam Bandt has today given notice in the House of Representatives of a Bill to immediately ban live animal exports from Australia.‪‪

The bill is based on Senator Rachel Siewert's bill which she has put before the Senate.‪

"Live animal exports are shiploads of misery," Mr Bandt said.‪

"We must act swiftly to immediately end this appalling treatment of animals that we saw so graphically on last night Four Corners program.

"Banning all live animal exports is the only ethical response to this problem and makes economic sense for Australia."‪
