If Labor abandons 2030 emissions targets, it abandons climate science

If the Labor Party dumps its current target of 45 percent emissions reduction by 2030, they will lose whatever credibility they have left on the climate crisis and prove that they’ve learnt all the wrong lessons from the election, said Leader of the Australian Greens Dr Richard Di Natale.  

“Queensland and New South Wales are burning, our firefighters and emergency responders on the ground are screaming out for support and Labor’s response is to join the climate deniers in the Liberals,” Di Natale said.

Australians back Greens’ vision of phasing out coal: Bandt

Greens climate change and energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt MP, today said that the latest Climate of the Nation report released by The Australia Institute reaffirmed that most Australians are concerned about how the climate crisis will exacerbate extreme weather events and want to see a phase out of coal to tackle the climate emergency. 
“The government has no mandate for coal,” said Mr Bandt.
“Nearly eight out of ten Australians want a plan to phase out coal power, something only the Greens are advocating.

Regulator says electricity bills higher under Libs than Greens/Labor carbon price: Bandt

A report on electricity prices released today by the Australian Energy Regulator confirms that electricity bills were lower when the Greens/Labor carbon price was in effect than they are now under the Liberals, said Greens energy spokesperson, Adam Bandt.
“Electricity bills were lower under the Greens/Labor carbon price than they are now under the Liberals, and back then we were also cutting climate pollution,” said Mr Bandt.

End the war on renewables and extend the RET: Bandt

Greens climate change spokesperson Adam Bandt MP has today called on Energy and Emissions Reduction Minister Angus Taylor to do his job, end the war on renewables and extend the Renewable Energy Target (RET) to cut pollution and lower power bills.

Don't privatise 'the world's most successful green bank': Bandt

Greens climate change spokesperson Adam Bandt MP, today called on the government to rule out privatisation of the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), which Scott Morrison has called the ‘world’s most successful green bank’, warning it would leave the government without even a fig-leaf of a climate change policy.
“Just last week, Scott Morrison was boasting to Pacific Island leaders about the importance of the ‘world’s most successful green bank’ to the government’s climate policy, yet now there’s discussion about selling it off,” said Mr Bandt.

Morrison must back Macron on Amazon climate emergency

Greens climate spokesperson, Adam Bandt, said that when the Prime Minister attends the G7 summit this weekend, the first time Australia has participated, he must back French President, Emmanuel Macron’s, demands for the Amazon fires to be recognised as an international crisis and made a top priority of the G7 meeting.
“Scott Morrison must back Macron’s call for the world to act on the Amazon climate emergency ,” said Mr Bandt.
