Government’s plan to bring down prices is a con: Bandt

Greens climate change and energy spokesperson Adam Bandt MP today slammed the government’s latest attempt at an energy plan, saying the price ‘safety net’ was a con and the coal slush-fund an irresponsible use of public money that will make global warming worse.

“This price ‘safety net’ move is an absolute con,” said Mr Bandt. 

“When you read the fine print, the so-called ‘cap’ won’t apply to 80-90% of customers.

IPCC report hits the climate emergency button: Greens

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 °C shows it is time to hit the climate emergency button, according to the Australian Greens. The Report, released today, reinforces the need for accelerated action to cut pollution in Australia, including the phase out of thermal coal exports. Action is needed before 2030.

“If we don’t quit coal, we are screwed,” said Mr Bandt.

“Business as usual under Liberal and Labor is a death sentence.

The Australian Greens will put in place a new Commonwealth strategy to establish establish Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) across Australia to drive the clean energy transition.

Time to establish a national publicly owned electricity retailer
