Greens launch TV advertisement and Victorian Greens campaign

Supporters joined Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne, Deputy Leader Adam Bandt, Lead Senate Candidate Janet Rice and other candidates at Melbourne's Victorian Arts Centre to launch the Victorian Greens election campaign today.

Senator Milne outlined how the Greens were on track to secure a second Victorian Senate spot and retain Adam Bandt's seat of Melbourne.

The Greens also unveiled their first TV election advertisement ‘Standing up for What Matters'. It can be viewed here.

Bandt welcomes Kennett intervention

Greens Deputy Leader and Federal Member for Melbourne Adam Bandt MP has thanked Jeff Kennett for his intervention in the Melbourne election campaign.
 
Mr Bandt said that the former Liberal Premier’s call for a Labor – Liberal preference deal in Melbourne has highlighted how close the old parties have become in their desperation to prevent alternative voices in the Parliament.
 
“Thanks, Jeff.  If he’s now backing my opponent and calling for me to be ‘wiped out’, I must be doing something right.”

Parliament declares Newstart is too low

Greens Deputy Leader Adam Bandt has welcomed the House of Representatives’ support for his motion declaring that the rate of Newstart is too low.

Mr Bandt says the government should now revisit its decision not to increase Newstart in the Budget.

“If we want a more caring society where we lift people out of poverty traps, the government must increase the dole”, Mr Bandt said.

“Today’s vote will give greater strength to the Greens, community and business groups that are campaigning for a $50 a week increase in Newstart.”

Labor must ‘Abbott proof’ Melbourne Metro funding: Bandt

Greens Deputy Leader and Federal Member for Melbourne Adam Bandt MP has called on Labor to work with the Greens to “Abbott-proof” the $3 billion in funding for Melbourne Metro announced last night.

Mr Bandt’s  Infrastructure (Priority Funding) Amendment Bill 2013 amends the Infrastructure Australia Act 2008 to require the Commonwealth to prioritise federal funding of rail projects already on the National Priority List, such as the Melbourne Metro, ahead of any new major metropolitan road projects such as the East West tunnel.
