Federal city funding should have conditions: Bandt

Greens MP Adam Bandt has released a submission on Melbourne's infrastructure which outlines his vision for Melbourne's future, including refusing Federal funding for road projects until public transport is improved.

The submission to Infrastructure Australia's Our Cities review calls for more Federal direct engagement in planning and infrastructure delivery in Australia's cities.

He has called for Federal funding to be dependent on a broad range of sustainability and liveability benchmarks being met.

Government sells out Traditional Owners and the Northern Territory while Coalition splits on nuclear waste dump vote

The Australian Greens today condemned the Government for passing a bill to force a radioactive waste dump onto the Northern Territory, despite the Opposition refusing to vote and Coalition MP Natasha Griggs crossing the floor to oppose the bill.

Greens MP Adam Bandt and Greens nuclear affairs spokesperson Senator Scott Ludlam congratulated Ms Griggs for her courage in voting against the radioactive waste dump bill while the Coalition took the extremely unusual step of removing all but one member from the Chamber during the vote.

Melbourne flood warnings need action: Bandt

Reports that Melbourne is at risk of increased flooding are concerning and must be acted on Greens MP Adam Bandt said today.

Modelling obtained by today's Age newspaper warns that in the coming years most of Melbourne may face a 25% increase in flooding because of climate change.

"The current experience of flooding in Queensland and Victoria shows we must heed the warning of climate scientists about future extreme weather events for Melbourne," Greens MP Adam Bandt said today.
